Discussion

This was the fourth cleaning spit (beneath 011AD00025 and 011AD00026) in the eastern third of area 11AD. The material removed (by shovel-scraping and then trowelling) varied from a loamy sand to a sandy loam (Munsell colour generally 10YR 4/3). There is a marked increase in the density of objects and animal bone finds in the south-western quadrant of the spit. Finds include a 2nd Century copper allow head stud bow brooch (Collingwood Q), half of a copper alloy circlet, a copper alloy faceted head pin, as well as bone comb fragments.
